W. & G. Schuchard "Flexa" made by Hückel Weilheim, 57 cm possibly mid 1960s. I believe this is the first for sure Hückel Weilheim Original Manufactured hat. "Flexa" is probably short for "Flexible" which is a common Hückel trademark going back to JHS. The "Saale" Form might have a been W. & G. Schuchard request. W. & G. Schuchard was a well known wholesaler / distributor going back to 1879. The black Felt has a nice smooth finish with a very fine hand. The overall quality is high with Hückel Weilheim features such as gold embossed liner and hanging cord.

Thanks for your messages and all the info, guys! Yes, it’s marked as 62.5 cm, I’m a 60 cm, so we’ll see how it fits! I should receive it in a few weeks and will share my feedback on the felt and sizing.

As for the Mayser, it should be a better fit if it’s a true 61 cm. I’ve had some vintage 61s that fit more like a 60, so fingers crossed!

I’m just happy cause I rarely find vintage hats big enough for me. I feel like I spend half my life hunting them down online!

I have posted this one before here a long time ago. Unfortunately its sweatband was toast and so was its ribbon. I sent it off to Penumbra hats for a refurb and this week it came back. The bow needs your attention.

Rockel velour in grey/brown. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5 at the center dent.

I can only join the previous speakers in saying "Wow," Stefan: All of Fleur's restorations that you've shown here are wonderful—and this bow is truly AMAZING! My compliments for her great work! And congratulations to you for letting her work her magic on your hats.

Thank you, Matt. Well worth the (admittedly long) wait.

Hello everyone,

I just bought these 2 hats , one is a Hückel size 62,5cm ? And the other one a Mayser 61cm. If you have some information about the felt , period etc… it will be very helpful. As soon as I receive them I will post my own pictures !

Thanks a lot!
Just got a reply from the Muzeum Novojičínska and he told me the Hückel is from the 1918-1938 era so pre WW2 ! Stunning !

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the information from the museum can't be correct. As Mayserwegener wrote above, the hat was made in the postwar period—most likely in the 1960s—by Hückel Weilheim and not in Novy Jicin (already called Tonak at that time).

Yes I was a bit surprised as well when they told me that to be honest! Thanks for the information!

May I ask, who was the person at the museum that made this claim? As Matt wrote, your hat was made by Hückel Weilheim, Bavaria, West Germany possibly late 1950s early 1960s. Here is the story about how Hückel Weilheim was formed post WWII. There is an English translation.

This is info on the Ratibor factory. I gave this document to the Novy Jicin City museum. The men that formed Hückel Weilheim came from the Ratibor factory. This documents what happened post WWI and the reason for the Ratibor factory. There is an English translation.
