BTW, also don't forget about the zipper Ian. I have a Waldes that I like a lot, nickel color. Some of the vintage / vintage repop zip's are a PITA (IMO). I like this one - looks the part, and is fairly easy to use. I don't often zip it up, so I am able to put up with a little less modern ease of use for some vintage looks.

Agreed, go with the stock zipper unless you have a reason to do otherwise. I went for a NOS 1939 Talon with deco stopper, but I always wanted that zipper on my "Dream jacket" no one else will ever know or care.

Here's the deal. I've loved many jackets since I started really doing this 5 years ago. But there's only a couple and why I only have three of those left in the closet. And of those three, the GW Ventura is simply the one I'd prefer to be buried in as I don't think my son will get from his current 38 to the needed 48.
So unless he has a son that takes after me, this one goes to the grave and gets me brownie points down below where I'll use it to fend off the eternal flames!

Vaseline is recommended because it is ph neutral and restores moisture. Some people think that because its petroleum derived it's bad. No less an authority than John of Goodwear recommends it. When you think about it, Pecards is a petroleum derived ph neutral cream that's very similar to Vaseline. Unlike Pecards, you can also rub Vas on yourself while you do your jacket and.... sorry.

A light coat of any dressing is best.

A light coating and let it sit for 24-48 hours. If you've done it right, there won't be anything left to buff off. But you can still go over it to give it a bit of a cleaning as my cloths tend to show a tiny bit of dirt (doesn't appear to take off the finish).
Not saying I won't use Pecards for things, but the jackets now are just good ol' Vaseline. And no Seb, I keep myself clear of the jar

Hey Butte - Do you and John use the old, original, thick, sticky Vaseline Petroleum Jelly... or the newer, more penetrating Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion?
