I was dusting a stack of hat boxes and I opened them up...as most are empty. I came across one my mother got for me from an elderly lady in Florida. It had a ladies hat & a mens hat with a couple of other items.

ANYHOW...this men's hat is indeed looks to be a Fedora Hat. It's a gorgeous deep brown and in top notch condition. NOW I would like to determine how old it could be or might not be.

It's a Mallory hat. In the center it has what seems to be a Mallory logo,

Established 1817,
Mallory
Fifth Ave. New York
"For Youthful Smartness"

A piece of plastic appears to be protecting this part of the logo against any wear from the head

It has a leather ring on the inside of the hat (sorry don't know the proper name to call it)
On this leather ring it has a stamp on right side "B.LEVINE & SONS, Springfield, Mass." ~ The stamp on the left side reads "MALLORY, Aristocrat Quality" under this wording is a circle that says " Cravenette processed 'sheds showers'

There is the info on the hat! I knew as soon as I found it where I needed to go to see if this hat is truly vintage. It's really so gorgeous!!

Oh ... and it's a size 7

Pictures Please

If you have a digital camera, you could take some pictures of the Hat from a variety of angles and if posible pix of the sweatband with the imprints along with the liner. Some times the style of the imprints and liner will give our experts a good indication of the era.

Also check under the leather sweatband for any paper tags there could be a tag with key info under the sweat band.

Thank you for your participation!:)

John's right, but from what you've already said, that it has plastic
in the liner, and what you didn't say, that it apparently does not
carry the Stetson name (60s Mallorys said "Mallory by Stetson"),
I'd put my money on a 50s origin.

The Aristocrat line, according to this thread:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=3535

is very good but not quite the best. That could mean a
very good hat indeed. Too bad it's not a bigger size.

I will indeed post some photos of this hat tomorrow!
There is no 'Stetson' on the hat, so you are right about that ~&~
I agree...this hat in size 7 seemed rather small for a man's head...lol!
I am not implying that men have big noggins mind you, but the hat does
seem smaller than I would expect.

Many, MANY Thanks & I look forward to posting the photos tomorrow!

hat size tidbits from the hatsite

Hat Sizing

An average head size for a man is 58 cms in European Sizing or 7 1/8 UK sizing and 7 1/4 US sizing. The average head size for a lady is 55 cms. Probably the largest head size you will ever find, will be 64cms and the smallest 51cms.

Head sizes and shapes differ from country to country with the smallest heads being in the Far Eastern countries and the largest in Germany. With regards to shape, these can be either very round or oval, with the far eastern countries having a rounder head and the western countries tending to have a more oval shape.
