I have coresponded with this museum but haven't had a chance to visit (they weren't open when I was in the area). This area (Allgäu) was originally a straw hat making center that also became a felt hat making center in 1920s. Mayser is still located there (originally in Ulm and moved all operations to Lindenberg in 1992) although they moved all production to Slovakia in 2011. There is a lot information on my site.
