Hat pins

Just curious, but when some of you buy a hat...do you remove the hat pins that come with the hat? I.E, Biltmore or stuff like that.

I plan on placing this on one of my Open Roads to look more like a Stratoliner
I am on the lookout for another one {Stratoliner}as I write this.
But to try to answer you, I have removed the STETSON pin from some of their newer hats. I tend to not like the 'name' pins as much as the pins like the ones that came on the Stratoliners.

in fact just bought a DC3 pin which will be placed on a hat as soon as it turns up. When I'm long dead I'll haunt the SOB that removes it!

I always leave 'em on if the lid is vintage!

That's funny, I take my feathers off and I 'sometimes' go ahead and leave the pin on.

My new grey Resistol 707 stingy (in the right size, this time) came with a little Boeing 707 pin. I'm going to clean it up a bit, but it stays.

I was going to wear one of my Sun Body hats on the airplane to Seattle last month, but didn't because of the Hat pins. I'm not sure what the TSA would think. I mean, anybody that would be scared of finger nail clippers...:eeek: Fortunately, my felt hats don't have any pins, and since I'd like to have them on travel they won't either.

The first thing I did when I bought my Stetson Temple was yank the feather off. None of the other hats had them anyway.

The hat pin fits really nice. I have been peeping at pins that are for sale on eBay in the vintage selection. Some pins may not even be fashioned to be on a Fedora, but just may look real nice on the side of a hat, such as a small sword design with some jewels on the handle. Personally, I leave what was on a hat there more than not when I get the hat. My only exception had been a very tattered thin rolled hat band that was on my Dobbs 15x OR. I had no choice but to replace it, had nothing thin to replace it with so I used 1 1/2 inch grosgrain to improvise a new hat band, and I like it.
