Neat! I liked that in 1935 the "well dressed" man may have up to 6 hats, but everyone else had 2: one for dress and one for sport. What does that say for us here at the Lounge?

Also each year seemed to talk about the "new" popularity of the up-turned brim. After 10 years, why was it referred to as "new?"

Here are some links to newspaper articles from the 30s and 40s on hat styling trends. Hopefully the links take you right to the page with the article.
These ads are extremely readable and nowadays, no longer laughable, as they would've been in the 1960s.

Someone so inclined at the Lounge might want to consider reviving this style of column--short and chatty--for a current men's fashion periodical. Esquire or GQ would be the biggest ones, but the hardest to crack. I think the readership of style mavens would be interested in such a column. So in other words, we need a hat journalist who would keep up with the trends, to pitch the idea to a publication with enough national readership to warrant the effort.

And while we're at it, why don't the hatmakers in the membership (and you know who you are) pitch a line of hats to a place like J. Peterman, with the catalog? Describing the merchandise is a breezy old-fashioned way that you make up, could sell a lot of hats, and stoke the fires for wider fedora adoption.
