I headed out with a Founders All Day IPA last night. A couple of sips in the 4'f (-15c') and I went back inside to enjoy the beer. A real satisfing and tasty beer for the ending of a long and cold day.

All I had to do was wait til morning and the "warm' 12'f temps to enjoy an outside walkabout.

Yesterday I finally got home well after the sunset. I went on a walkabout with a Founders All Day IPA. Inside I poured a small dram of Glen Allachie 10. I headed out to enjoy the evening and changed from my intended hat to a cap as the temps were dropping quickly.

This Speyside distiller is owned by private folks and not a big group. This cask strength whiskey is a rich vibrant fruity whiskey that is not sweet or simple. I do like this whiskey. I have tasted the 12 and 15yr versions. I do like this version better. Easily approached and an excellent late night sipper.

This morning some Dunn Brothers Costa Rica coffee and then a Surley Supreme pilsner when I am tending to our brunch getting cooked on the grill.

The Squeezed IPA is a very easily reachable and drinkable IPA. This medium hoppy beer on a cold night is exactly what I wished for. A solid beer! I got a couple 6 pack of bottles for a bit less than $8.00 locally. Excellent beer and price.

I have not had them in awhile and it tastes more grapefruit and citrus hop finish than I remember. I read this past weekend that our tastes and memories affect our future tastings. I will reread as I do not understand how I may anticipate them to change.

Love many of the Deschutes beer offerings. I their a Deschutes I should avoid?

Cheers, Eric -

I don't know of any that I would say stay away from, but some of their older stuff like mirror pond pale and black butte porter don't really do it for me anymore. I quite enjoy their current IPA varieties as well as their Red Chair NWPA though.

Peanut Butter Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing Co with an American original MacLachlan Beaver 15

You got your chocolate in my peanut butter! A very rich and flavorful stout with sweet chocolate and peanut butter flavors. 6.2% ABV. Really enjoyed this one.

One of my favorite parts of work training trips is trying new breweries and Poulsbo, WA has not been short on good beer. I have tried three breweries on the last three evenings all were good but the brewery tonight takes the cake. I went to Valhöll Brewing tonight and had a flight of tasters all of which were good but my favorite was the Norseman Hazy IPA. They had a super cool, rustic feeling pub too. Wearing my Fed IV.

Summer time in New Zealand and my second hat (of two) for this trip is my Bailey Toyo.
Monteith’s is probably the oldest microbrewery in New Zealand. I picked up some Monteith’s black - ok but nothing special. I won’t buy it again.

My brother got some Monteith’s low carb IPA. It did nothing for me either.

I also got some Mac’s Green Beret IPA.
Mac’s was also one of the first microbreweries in New Zealand and has long been a favourite. With good reason - this bitter citrusy little number really hit the spot.

We followed up with a pleasant Shiraz based red wine blend (no photo). Pleasant, but not one to purchase again in this land of stunning wines.
