I need a new place to buy suits

I retired 12 years ago. I was a management consultant my entire career. I have not thrived being retired. I am going to work part time at least. My problem is that the place I had been buying my suits and almost all my clothes was sold and it's not the same. I am in Massachusetts and am hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.

SuitSupply would be a solid choice. They are mainly online retail but do have brick and mortar stores in major cities. Boston as an example, not sure where in MA you are. They offer a decent amount of customization, different fits, fabric, etc.

Spier and Mackay is similar. Though it's been said the quality is a little below that of suitsupply. I don't have first hand experience with that.

In terms of RTW offerings it's hard to go wrong with Ralph Lauren. Todd Snyder also sell suits and seem to have a decent offering.

Truth be told, the vast majority of my suits have come from consignment or thrift shops. It takes some patience finding well made suits in the right size, but it's economical when you consider that you will likely need some alterations no matter if the suit is new or pre-owned.

Depends on your budget and style.
As mentioned- Brooks Brothers, J Crew for more budget and preppy style. SuitSupply if you want a more European fit, slightly more expensive. Also in that range is Todd Snyder (they have a lot of sales). No Man Walks Alone sells some interesting suits, but they’re more expensive. Also in New York, I like The Armoury, but theirs will be on the pricier end.

Spier and MacKay (aka ***) is good. They offer a range of sizes and offer fabrics from some of the best mills. Construction is decent for the price (half canvas, made in China being the standard). You could also step it up with their MtM program if you know your sizing well. Keep an eye out for their Black Friday and end of season sales.

I think they have shifted some production from China to India and are pre-paying the duties so you don’t get any surprises. From their website:

I was in a pretty similar situation recently when I had to start rebuilding my wardrobe after retirement. Off-the-rack suits just weren’t fitting me the way they used to, especially around the shoulders and waist.

If you're open to traveling a bit, New York has some excellent made-to-measure and custom tailoring options that are worth considering. I came across places like l&s custom tailors, The Tailory New York, and a local shop called La Rukico Custom Suit Tailors while researching, and they all seem to offer proper fittings along with fabric and style customization.

From what I’ve learned, the key is choosing a place that takes posture-based measurements and allows at least one fitting before final delivery — it really makes a difference in how the jacket drapes and how comfortable the trousers feel throughout the day.

What r people's thoughts on department store suit options such as Nordstrom? I just moved to the Bay area and also need to get a suit. I've owned JCrew, Banana, Suitsupply, but maybe want a higher tier now and really invest in a good fit.
