Dear loungers,

strangely enough, I found the Lounge just some days ago. On the other hand, I found it already some days ago, so please accept my apologies for the late introduction.

I'm delighted by the wealth of information and knowledge about topics that interest me, but even more so, I'm impressed by the atmosphere - turns out style is more than knowing what socks to pick.

As you might imagine, I had a look at what's being discussed all over the lounge, and though I'll try to be a good boy and post stuff where it belongs, I take the newbie liberty to cobble together some things that aren't worth a thread.

So, let me think - I'm bi-whiskey as long as it's drinkable.

Clotheswise, I prefer the (late) thirties to the forties, don't like wide shouldered jackets (not for women, not for men, not 40's, not 80's), but I prefer my jackets a bit longer and rather straight than waisted/tapered. High-cut (lapels' crossing) in waistcoats and jackets, unless we're talking red velvet smoking jacket with belt, and I'm used to wearing my trousers rather high. I don't like overly pointed shirt collars, a 40's abomination that came back in the 70's rather than the 80's, interestingly. Like my trousers comfortably wide, but certainly not baggy.

Though I learned from my late father that a woman buys her clothes in Paris, and a man in Milan, I think I'm equally open for Italian, British and American style suits. I share the sorrow about low armholes in suits in general, though I usually look for armholes that allow me to wear the tefille under the sleeve. (Tefillin are those black leather cubes with pentateuch excerpts inside that traditional Jews wear during morning prayers, and a sad amount of people will not simply undress the jacket and stand in a decent shirt, but will slip out of one sleeve only, letting it hang down for half an hour or so. :eusa_doh: )

For obvious reasons, I'm wearing a headcovering all day, a house cap inside - think medium high smoking cap minus the tassle, not a skullcap -, but a hat or cap outside - after all, I don't wear slippers on the street either.

Hats: Usually either a fedora or a flat cap, seasonally a straw fedora or a straw cap. I wear my grey 1950's Homburg (Christys', London) mainly on special occasions such as festivals, but I'm always looking for special occasions ;) . Even less often do I wear my felt top hat, and I haven't worn a silk top hat since my marriage.

I like, actually love thirties jazz, but then again, I like many kinds of music, jazz or other, and certain big-band swing recordings really go on my nerves. In spite of my love for music, I'm not exactly a dancer, indeed, I think the last time I shook a leg I was wearing a silk top hat...

Though I subjectively think I'm not at all eclectic, I look rather for things that suit me (and which I can afford  ) than for consistency in period. It only turns out the Golden Era isn't called like that for nuffin'. One shouldn't forget that in, say, 1938, people didn't exclusively wear clothing from '38, living in 1938-built flats with 1938-made furniture, either.

Like probably most of you, I got used to repeating silly remarks about these things (Fedora: "Ah, here's to your eyes, haha!" Black inverness rain cape: "Ah, elementary, my dear Watson, haha!") Long ago, I broke the habit of explaining that it's good against getting wet in the rain, or the like.

So, then - that's all, folks, for today.
