If he is a Hollywood type, it could very well be a custom of sorts, made to work with his features, even if its not a completely accurate reproduction. The brim looks a bit wider than accurate.

That's my vote too. Looks like a captain or sailor from a King Kong movie. No hole for the Army emblem, the peak seems too low, and the color is white (not khaki or OD green).
