Is this a legit 1950s first model MA-1 (mil-j-8278) or a more modern reproduction?

The first year for the MA-1 was 1955. They continued in production for years after that. In fact, may still be in production.

I doubt that this one was one from the 50s; it looks way too new.

Check inside the handwarmer pockets for a reproduction tag. I agree this looks quite new.

Also if they're original they go for big money from listings I've seen in Japan around $1000-1500 I think? So the price should also give you an indicator if you're looking at a listing.
