It Could Have Been Brilliant

I don't watch a lot of the current Hollywood fare, but I did see 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' when it was released some years ago. If you're not familiar with it, it is about Gong Show creator Chuck Barris who had a nervous breakdown and then wrote a book in which he claims he was a shadowy goverment assassin. As an escort to couples on The Dating Game, he would cross the border into East Germany, take out his target, and return to his life of Hollywood games show producer.

I thought the picture was well done - George Clooney ended up directing it when the first director either quit or was fired (I can't remember which) - but I also thought it could have been brilliant if Clooney had cut out the documentary interviews and ended it right after Barris has his breakdown. Indeed, the last minute where Barris comes up with the game show about three old guys who blows their brains out is a perfect ending, but it comes ten minutes too late.

So what pictures have you thought could be brilliant, if only you were in the chair?

Regards,

Senator Jack

Either of the movies based on Cussler novels. Flight of the Intruder (not so much "brilliant" as "better", though.) Clear and Present Danger--although it'd have to be made as a TV miniseries. The Bourne trilogy, #3 of which is still forthcoming but unlikely to recover from the train-wreck of The Bourne Supremacy.
