I have a badalassi board racer and man when I got it my first thoughts were my god it’s beautiful second was my god it’s loud but it definitely quiet down after a few wears View attachment 745456

You're lucky. Mine have gone from squeaking to creaking, but it's still unmistakable. It doesn't bother me when I'm walking around, but when I'm sitting in a crowded train and it creaks with every movement, so much so that people almost turn around, then it does annoy me a little. I have two, but I probably wouldn't buy a third one from Badalassi.

I recall when I first got this jacket, reaching out to you and asking you about the squeaking

Does the sheene stays on them after breaking in?

I seem to recall even writing that it has decreased. And yes, it has, to a certain extent. However, recently, in a quiet situation, I noticed once again how loud it still is. Although I find the creaking less bothersome than the squeaking.

For me, the shine is still there.

How can you know it is the jacket that got quieter and not you that got used to its noise?
We need a Myth-Busters-style test.

If you all will excuse me now, I'm going to put on my Badalassi jacket and squeak my way to (and through) the grocery store.

Almost a year in with my j106 aero chestnut badalassi. still makes noises but I feel when it warms up after wearing it for a few hrs it tends to quiet down but there is a possibility I was getting used to the noise! Hoping the sound continues to decrease with wear. I really enjoy wearing it but i definitely won't get another aero badalassi. The jacket is still shiny and definitely has a presence.

well I would hear it most on when I would be in the car and I would move it was loud there is no way in my opinion that I would get used to it in my opinion and someone can correct me this particular leather comes with a tpr coating and that's what makes the noise as I wears it get more quiet

One day I went to see an apartment. It was lovely, I truly considered renting it. As I was leaving the area, I heard a noise: The train passed very close to the apartments. That would be a train passing every 5-10 minutes.

It was summer and there was a bunch of people on the grass next to the apartments having a beer and some snacks, so I approached them and asked if they lived in these apartments, most of them did. They all said the apartments themselves were great. Some said they got used to the train noise in just a couple weeks. Some said they didn't get used to it to a year.

Badalassi may be a leather train.

I don't know the particular (my previous message came before seeing this one yours) reason, so this might be. But basically this is why I just do not even ever consider Badalassi. It looks great but the noise would drive me crazy so I wouldn't wear it!

I'm looking to get a custom jacket from Johnson Leather. I'm having a hard time choosing a leather. I'm going to talk to Damon about it soon, but I'm curious about long term experiences of the various leathers if anyone here has any data to share as it relates to their leather choice.

https://johnsonleather.com/products/del-66
3oz Obsidian black cowhide

https://johnsonleather.com/products/trocadero-teitessa-cowhide
3oz cowhide (1.2MM)

https://johnsonleather.com/products/del-66-triple-black-copy
2.25oz blackbird leather naked cowhide

https://johnsonleather.com/products/ap-01c
2.75 oz veg-tan horsehide (1.0MM)

You can ignore the styles as I'm getting fully custom racer type jacket. I'm only referencing the links as that's the leather I'm considering. I'm not a rider and I'm looking for something a smooth and not to grainy or "pebble-y" (I love lambskin for this reason but its far to delicate and I want something a bit more durable). I love textures like the ones I've attached, so I'm thinking some kind of cow hide or horse hide.

So with all of that said, does anyone have any longer term experiences with the JL leathers I've attached when it comes to break in, long term jacket texture, and any other general thoughts?

I'm pretty sure the Obsidian is the one I was going to go with originally, with some under the surface quilting.
