What was that hat that Ted Kennedy was wearing at the inauguration?

Glad to see I'm not the only one that saw it. If you were watching the MSNBC broadcast, they actually said that Ted Kennedy was bringing back the fedora. I'll see if I can scare up a transcript.

Also, did anyone else notice the abundance of hat wearers in the crowd every time?

As for his hat, I'm gonna say either a high-end stetson or a borsalino.

It looked a little small to me for his ginormous head. I may not agree with the senatorial priviledges afforded to him over his career, but he does get kudos for having enough sense to wear a hat in winter. Too many people brave the cold without any protection on their noggins. Something with a little larger crown would have looked better on him. Something in between what he wore and the witches hat that Cheney wore would have been perfect.JMHO

Interesting; the crease on Kennedy's hat is very similar to one of Harry Truman's hats:

did anyone happen to see that fur helmut President Bush Sr. was wearing?

and i don't get Sen. Joe Lieberman. as an Orthodox Jew he probably has a bunch of conservative fedoras in his closet . . . yet for the Inauguration he wore that stupid, loud University of Connecticut baseball hat..

on the positive side, some of President Bush's friends (i am assuming they were HIS friends) were wearing some pretty handsome silver belly Stetson cowboy hats . . a few of which had those squared off bashes. perhaps someone on this forum knows the name for it.

To me, the hat looks "old fashioned". And black. Looks diplomatic to me.

Not real big on that Kennedy hat myself. He looks like he just bought it off the rack. Now FDR, that man knew how to bash, smash and crease a hat.
