Won this Loewe on OFAS a couple of weeks back for just $29; it may be my finest hat, or is at least equal. It was 200161781323 if still active.
The off-brand name, and the seller's indication that it might be wool, must have scared most of the bidders away. The seller took ample pictures, and I thought I could see the texture of the felt and concluded this had to be fine fur felt, and it turned out to be even better than expected. It is softer to the touch (differentiating between limp felt and a soft feel of the felt itself) than a Stetson Royal Deluxe (strat) and is at least equal to the 40's Borsalino felt in my avatar. The 2 3/4 brim is a bit much for me, but this hat is so sweet to the touch . . . Construction looks 50s, liner is stitched in, very nice work on the sweatband. I am not happy with the bash I put in it, may change that to a center-dent, with the dents creased back 2/3 to the back. This has to be at least 50% beaver, and might be all beaver, wish I knew how to tell for sure. Question - does anybody remember a hatmaker named Loewe? Which city?
This is a green Barbisio in a 'peluche' I guess, and it would be really nice but the brim is only 2 1/4 and there are some insect marks on it. I don't care for the overwelt on the brim either, but I will wear this from time to time.
