Wide brim short crowns you will find are eassier to come by on the general market than tall crowned short brimmed.

I just saw Italian filmmaker Vittorio de Sica's 1946 movie, THE BICYCLE THIEF. It was filled with characters wearing (presumably) Italian fedoras. Practically all of them had low crowns and fairly wide brims. Presumably, low-crowned/wide-brimmed fedoras were sold in Italy as early as the 1940s. It's conceivable that Italy was the original source of this now-universal hat style.

Furthermore, I own a 1940s Borsalino fedora that has -- you guessed it -- a low crown and a wide brim.

On Worth and Worth and C Crowns

I'd be a little wary. Their hats are Cervos, once great, but the felt now is not very good. Everyone else will jump on me for saying this, but I think a few of the modern Borsalinos are good. The Traveler from Noggintops, and the much harder to find (and more expensive, but very nice Icaro---I am wearing a black Icaro in the avatar). These two may not have wide enough brims for you though. On the look from the bicycle thief, I think the c crowns made by Biltmore for Miller hats come pretty close (their "teardrop collection" ) .

I just received the Lock catalogue. Nice hats but i think their web site has much larger selection. Prices seem a bit high but the shipping cots to USa are much too high. The will advise of places in the States which carry the brand though
