Yeah that's one of his earlier ones, I think, although it's probably also in "PreHistory".

Did you know he has a louse named after him? It's a very specialised louse that only lives on a certain type of owl, I think. Here's a picture of it:

Now that's off-topic. ;)

Bolthead -- I love Gary Larson, have seen that particular cartoon. Wish he come out of retirement and do some more stuff.

I have a collection of my favorite Larson cartoons.

Two things guaranteed to get people to talk to you in a bar: Wear a hat. Read a book. (I didn't include Misbehave as a third thing because I don't count "Ma'am, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave" as talking.)

As far as a woman in a bar is concerned, you also forgot "look single". Do that, and any girl will get at least one conversation.

I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, but - apart from the the obvious fact that the hat is ridiculously small, and maybe that one had better be careful with remarks that might look like criticism when the other guy is big, has a *** handy and some alcohol in his veins, is there another level I didn't get?

I think you got it.

Larson used to do a lot of these sort of cartoons, which are essentially a parody based on the idea that there is always some clown in a bar (or other public settings) who likes to state the obvious, and doesn't know when to keep his thoughts to himself.

It's basically a joke about the loud-mouth. He thinks the ridiculous one is the guy with the tiny hat, but actually, the joke is on himself; we laugh at his foolishness, and at the fact that in a few moments he'll probably get knocked through a window.

That's my take anyway, not wishing to analyse the cartoon into its grave.

Thanks, my previous knowledge of his mean and mostly very funny cartoons suggested this, but I just wasn't sure.
