Jack Chapman lead the band at the Drake Hotel which was located at 140 East Walton Place in Chicago. Chapman's band was also the "official orchestra" of Chicago radio station WDAP (thank you redhotjazz.)

"Dreaming of a Castle in the Air" -- Jack Chapman and His Orchestra ....... this humble little tune from the mid 20s, that sounds like millions of others and is nothing special, gives flavour of the times! real flavour of the 1920s!

I wonder if anybody knows who is the Orchestra playing [huh]

Sorry it took me so long to reply. This was a mystery, but, fun to try to track down exactly who Willard was singing with. At first, I thought it was the Dorsey Brothers as it had that sound for me and Willard did provide vocals for them at times. After finding in many interesting facts about the composition itself. I contacted the person who actually uploaded the song. He stated that he believes it was the New York Twelve or the Dorsey brothers. I did find that Willard had recorded with them during this period. I also found that your tune was recorded by many in this time period. It was also featured in Musical Moments (short) (1929) by The Four Synco-Pets .

Again I apologize for the delay and I hope this helps.

Banjoreno - The Dixieland Jug Blowers

The Dixieland Jug Blowers were a big band which tried to include different instruments into jazz, here it's the jug. As far as I know they were active just one or two years, around 1926. But I could be wrong. This piece is let's say "weird", but in a twisted kind of way I like it :D

Parlophon Orkestern -- In Every Heart There Lives A Little Cupid (1928)
Recorded in Berlin for the Swedish market, the Parlophon Orkestern is believed to be a pseudonym for either Otto Dobrindt or Dajos Bela.

"AMAPOLA" - (1/2) Lecuona Cuban Boys ! 1937

There was something wrong with that video, but, this song is such a gem I found another video.:)

"The Lecuona Cuban Boys was a popular Cuban orchestra which toured the world for over forty years.

The band was founded by Ernesto Lecuona, whose role was that of a patron-entrepreneur. He did not actually play with the band, but sometimes gave a piano recital before the band played. The core of the band was put together in 1931 as Orquesta Encanto; the band changed name early in 1934. On tour in Europe, in 1934, Lecuona returned to Cuba, and Armando Oréfiche took charge of the band in Europe. Ernesto gave them the gift of his name, which, at the time, was a property well worth having, and the right to use a number of his compositions.

The LCB was exceptional strong in arrangements, compositions and instrumental quality (most of them could play two or three instruments). Their only weak spot was the lack of a really first-rate Cuban singer, but that was not so important as might seem because they played so often to non-Latin audiences. Some of their pick-up singers could sing in English, and many of their numbers were instrumentals. The band played the full range of Cuban popular music, but their speciality was the conga. Though it was perhaps Eliseo Grenet who first composed a conga in its ballroom dance style, it was certainly the LCB who took it round the world and made it famous. The LCB was therefore the first conjunto to use the conga drum regularly in its performances, and not Arsenio Rodríguez, as is often supposed.

The band initially organized itself as a collective, but in practice Armando Oréfiche (composer, arranger, pianist) was the leader. Other band members were Ernesto 'Jaruco' Vázquez (trumpeter, guitarist, composer, arranger); Adalberto 'Chiquito' Oréfiche (tenor sax and bongo); Agustin Bruguera (timbales, conga, voice); Gerardo Bruguera (tenor sax and clarinet); Jesús Bertomeu (trombone); Jorge Domínguez (alto sax, clarinet, violin); Daniel González (alto sax, clarinet, violin); Guillermo Hernández (guitar, tumba, guiro, maracas); Enrique López Rivero (trumpet) 1932 34; Alberto Rabagliati (voice) engaged 1934; later Fernando Díaz and Luis Escalante were engaged as replacement trumpeters.

The band toured throughout the world: the USA, Latin America and Europe were the main tours. When World War II broke out, the band went to Latin America and continued their touring there. After WWII there was a dispute within the band, which ended in a split. Armando Oréfiche left with a few members, and started the Havana Cuban Boys; the rest stayed under the old name, based in New York until 1960. The Lecuona Cuban Boys continued to tour, and finally retired in 1975."

Marek Weber und sein Orchester -- Das Gibt's Nur Einmal (1931)
(Once And For All)

Once and for all
It doesn't come back.
This is too good to be true!
It comes to us like a miracle from Heaven
With a golden shiny glow!
Once and for all
It doesn't come back
Maybe I'm dreaming
That life can come back again
Maybe tomorrow is gone
And life can only give but once
Because each has only one spring of May!
