Need help identifying this leather jacket

I've always loved this jacket that Johnny Depp wore back in the 90s. I think it might be some kind of vintage aero, maybe a half belt? the thing throwing me off is the diagonal zipper.

Would love anyone's help identifying it as I'd like to search and add it to my collection.
