IMO with your posture you should be looking for jackets with short backs and a front drop.
I think you could probably get away with a 24" back if the front was long enough to cover your belt.
That way you would not get all that extra material creasing and bunching in the back.
Sleeve length wise, i think the cordo is too short, but the brown is at least 1" if not more too long.
Have you ever had a 30's halbelt with a front drop?

Thanks for the tips here. I did have one, actually bought off the rack from Thurston when they still had thier store. Kept it from 2015 - 2020. Had a #10 zip put in it, wore it a lot, just didn't "love" the pattern. It was a heavy black Steerhide one.

Love the hooch but can’t abide by that center “gusset”. The video clearly illustrates why. I would def have one without that feature though. I know why it’s there and I can see it works but.....it’s just too...anatomical*

* in place of a more accurate descriptor.
Since that gusset is reminiscent of something I have spent almost my entire life pursuing then perhaps it is appropriate to make it a centerpiece of a nice jacket.

Bumping this thread back open as we've had some bootlegger questions arise...15 pages of good info here.

Resurrecting this as it seems like the best Bootlegger thread.

I'm thinking about a Bootlegger, Hooch Hauler or a similar style later this year and am not sure which direction to go in. Ideally I'd like:

*Enough comfort that I could wear it all day - I want something wearable, not heavy for the sake of it.

*No action back - I've discovered that these just ruin jackets for me, I get the benefits but can't get over the aesthetics.

*A reasonably fitted look - I don't want something really super boxy with no taper.

*To wait for something to pop up on the stock page so I can return it. I'm happy with the stock fit across several manufacturers, modern and vintage, and am not interested in going down the rabbit hole of customisation. It seems like the road to ruin in terms of actually being able to feel satisfied with a jacket and add permanent keepers to the wardrobe.

Obviously what I'm asking for is a kind of mix of the two, but does anyone have anything to chip in with? I'm leaning towards Bootlegger a size down. Would that give enough taper? I think the action back probably rules out the Hooch Hauler but would welcome any suggestions of other models (Aero or otherwise).

Sizing down to get a neater fit in any jacket can be very hit and miss; at best you can end up with a jacket that looks an odd fit, at worst, a jacket that doesn't fit. Better to speak to Aero about this. It sounds like the standard bootlegger is the style that would work best for you, but Aero are best placed to advise on fit. The Bootlegger pattern is the same as a 50s halfbelt, other than the lancer front. In the distant past I have heard of Aero making one to order based on the slimmer-fitting, 30s halfbelt pattern, however that was during the Lauder 'Anything goes' era; it may or may not be something they would agree to do now.

I think you're right. It's a good few months away, at best, so plenty of time to mull it.

Aero still makes the STF Bootlegger, this one was inspired by Ton’s V2 that inspired this epic thread.

Noticed a couple of these on the stock page - what exactly is the difference?
The way Aero explained it to me, the STF version was patterned for the Japanese market, it’s much slimmer through the body and sleeves. My version also switched out the storm cuffs for exposed zippers on the top of the sleeves, like a Board Racer.

Compared to my Hooch Hauler in the same size, the STF Bootlegger’s shoulders are about 1” narrower and the arm holes are cut about 1/2” lower.

All I did was order natural chromexcel produced by Horween Tannery (Chicago) from Aero Leathers catalogue. I ordered the jacket through Thurston Bros. I didn’t pick out the specific hide.
