Non traditional jobs

As I've mentioned before I work as a radio announcer here in Sydney.
I work as a casual at two stations, one an easy listening station and the other a Christian music station. I also do voiceovers for national clients via an agency.
I love the freedom these jobs give me, along with the good pay.

I just recently took an extra job working from home for three hours in the morning writing stories for a radio industry online journal.
They pay well and I can't believe I can just get up and start work whilst eating breakfast in my pyjamas!

Just wondering if anyone else works a non traditional job, perhaps in IT or media that is a bit like this.
It's fascinating that there are jobs like this around.

Does freelance historical research count? Over the years, I've built a reputation among those who know me as "the guy who either has all the answers, or can get them for you."

Kinda cruelly ironic, in that I'm accustomed to being "the man with the answers", and yet some twists in life have given me nothing but new questions.

I was a muralist on a team pf painters, who hand painted these large (15 ft tall) and rather ugly murals of outdoor activities for this wilderness store chain. [huh] Sounds cool, but it was a paint by numbers kind of thing. Rather boring and very non creative. Paid crap too.

I work at home answering phones for a major telemarketing company doing so for 6 major companies, work as a police for a kid site (I get paid to make sure the people there are either acting in accordance with the TOS and/or are under a certain age for certain pages) and sew for fluffy "women" that have extra parts and porn stars (oddly, I also sew for fluffy and/or tall kids too, but never the twain of clientele do meet.) I also write in my spare time, and do get paid for that, since it's media you're looking for.

I stack b-b's in Cucamonga, in the off season!

But I spent a decade as a freelance commercial photographer. I primarily shot artwork for gallery promotion and advertising. It was unusual because I was exposed to so much artwork in so many genres. At times my studio was filled with a huge variety of items, from sculptures, to toys, to paintings to fabric pieces. It was pretty amazing to see such a plethora of creative output.

It was a great gig; right up to the time I went bankrupt and it all fell apart like a cheap suit. You know - divorce, bankruptcy, depression - the usual stuff! ;)

Working as a freelance copywriter and artdirector, some of my best idears were thought up in pyjamas.

The strangest thing was talking on the phone with the CO of a huge international coporation - in my underwears.
But what the h... he approved my campaignsuggestion. But it was kind of weird:D

I've done freelance historical consultation for quite a while now -- there isn't much money in it, but every little bit helps. I also do audio transfers and sound restoration for people with radio transcription discs they'd like to hear.

Earlier this year I did a voice for an animated cartoon -- a cranky chickadee with a Maine dialect -- but, alas, the script got rewritten and my character was eliminated. At least they paid me up front.

The most non-traditional job I've had, though, has to be my stint writing copy for fortune cookies. (Hey, you didn't think they wrote themselves, did you?)

I was a teacher for many years which was very traditional.

My current job is very non traditional. I work "in the field" a lot going from site to site. I work from home a lot not really doing a whole bunch, and yes, working in pajamas is GREAT. It took me a bit to get accustomed to the very unstructured way my position is set up, especially after coming from a very traditional setting.

After a few years of photography and photo lab work, I became a delivery driver for a series of companies (beauty supplies, furniture, uniforms and then hardwood flooring).

But the only nontraditional driving job I had was to drive my own '67 Chrysler around for two days in the background of a short spoof film based on Gene Roddenberry, Titled Roddenberry on Patrol.

Which brings me to a few celebs I forgot to mention in the thread on that subject: Tim Russ (who personally okayed my car), Robert Beltran and Robert Picardo.

Tim Russ posed for the camera with me by my car. Nice guy. :)

AHHH someone else who does that too....I actually joined an agency that specialises in classic cars for movies.
Haven't had any work yet, it's only been a couple of weeks, but the money is pretty good, around $300-500 for the day which is not bad. Only cost $20 to join. Actually I would love to get into commercials or extra work, sadly I haven't found an agency yet that won't charge ridiculous fees just to be on their books.

Oh, I also did prop master/art designs for independent films and theater years ago. Now that was REALLY non traditional.

Getting paid to make fake vomit, fake weed (for a few films), and burn candles down to various lengths so it looks as though they've been used for a while was a real treat. Not to mention the VERY weird hours I worked and basically living/working out of a van for months on end. Ah, the good days.
