Dare I use that Nu Straw brand cleaner on my vintage Montecristi? Anyone here got firsthand experience with the stuff?

Depending on what vintage the hat is, and how tight the weave, you could end up "experimenting" with a thousand dollar hat.
If it is fine, superfino, and valuable, I suggest a boxing and ship to Optimo. He knows his straws.

I have no first hand experience with a vintage panama. I did, however, try using it on a moderm production panama. It didn't hurt the hat, but it didn't help it either. Running the portion that needed cleaning under the faucet helped more than the NuStraw did. If I were in your shoes, I would follow An****v's advice and send it to a pro.
