I know what you mean. Baseball caps should only be worn on the field! NYC style is for the most part in the gutter. The businessmen are bland or metro***uals and the rest of 'em are fashion slaves.
Let us lead by example!

They also belong on the farm. Few things are more appropriate than a "John Deere" or "Dekalb" cap on a farmer. (I still prefer a full brim hat, but most of my relatives who farm go with caps.)

While I'm on the topic of farmers: I don't think I've ever known a group with a higher proportion of true gentlemen than among those who till the land. I come from a family of farmers and have been on and around farms my whole life. While there is clearly a heavy redneck attitude that intrudes, the core of the majority who farm is that of a true gentleman.

A few comments;
I have yet to see an actual picture so I find myself laughing outloud at the images my mind summons up... like a matching herringbone overcoat and ballcap ensemble, or even a tartan plaid coat and ballcap! Say didn't that guy from cheap trick start that tend 20 years ago?
and finally..these guy's actually make "Men in Fedoras" look even better.

I even hate to see farmers wearing ballcaps, especially if they spend lots of hours out in the sun.

I live now in Iowa and it seems to be one of the ballcap centers of the universe. My father wore one most of his adult life, but never wore one in lieu of a fedora. My male and female relatives wear them. I now wear my newsboy caps and fedoras -- mother is disturbed when I wear fedoras, but does like the caps. Once in awhile she borrows one to use.

Once in a great while I see a fedora wearer here, mostly men, occasionally a woman.

One of my nieces tried on a couple of my fedoras and she looked hot. Ready to cut a music video. So, it's a matter of time, Iowa is provinchial, and about 5 years behind whatever coast they emulate in fashion. Meanwhile, I wear my fedoras....

Biltmore- I remember a short-lived cartoon character that was perhaps localized in St. Louis where I grew up in the 50s. His name was Rootie Kazootie and he wore his ball cap sideways. He was also about as smart as Mortimor Snerd. So everytime I see some yahoo with the cap askew I think of that semi-****** Rootie Kazootie and wonder what the hell happened!

I think one of the reasons ball caps are so popular is because it is so easy to advertise on a ball cap. They don't take up alot of room, make stuffy people think they are less stuffy and are very cheap if not free. I have a couple of them but I refuse to do any type of advertising for anyone without them paying me, so they do not have any logos on them. I espesially think baseball teams take advantage of fans by charging way too much for "official" ball caps and then they have you advertise their team. They should at least make the ball caps free of charge to anyone willing to advertise. It is nothing but a winning situation for them. When I see a ball cap worn sideways, I always check to see if the person also has pants that are falling down. If it does not look like I am going to have someone get violent with me, I jokingly yell out, "hey, your pants are falling down. And your hat is on crooked. Do you need some help?"
