To demonstrate the challenge here are two examples together.


The same hat in two different felt colors and two different ribbon colors.

The left one looks more red than the right therefore:

Left to right we have red and green or

brown and green

The red filter lightens colors similar to itself(red,orange,purple etc) and darkens colors opposite to it(blue,green and the shadows) so we have a winner brown on the right.
Actually the left is a medium gray w/a hint of green and a black ribbon. The right is a medium brown with a chocolate brown ribbon.
