Locust Fork, AL.

I may or may not have posted this one before, but I was by there today and took a picture so here it is.

I suspect those windows are made from what was called "factory sash," and had panels that swung out on midline-mounted pivots. A rounded screen like these appear to be would accomodate that kind of movement where a coventional flat screen wouldn't allow such windows to open.

Thank you. That makes sense, but it is kind of a kludgy solution. One of my many apartments over the years had casement windows that opened out, but they worked from a crank inside that sat behind a flat screen. It was a pretty cool setup, but if the window got stuck open and the crank wasn't working, you had to take the screen off and manually close the window. They were very old and that happened from time to time. Sometimes it seems like there are no solutions, only tradeoffs.

Yep, most of the big oil companies sold a "sub regular" brand of fuel that was intended for use in price wars. The inside term was "fighting gas." The brands were usuallly not immediately recognizable as being affiliated with the company's primary brand -- Texaco's brand was "Indian Gas," Shell's was "Green Streak," Socony had "Metro," and so forth. Gulf had its "Gulftane" brand, which had a brief resurgence during the oil crisis of the early 70s, when people would put anything in their tank as long it would burn, and it was the last one of these brands that I remember seeing in actual use.

⇧ Great pics, thank you, Bob. Those two stations, in their original state, are beautiful.

How confident must you be in stable gas prices to paint the darn prices on the side of your building?
