One Aero - Long Halfbelt or Cheyenne?

No, I really fancy the idea of a LHB in a lighter thread. Maybe a Hercules. To me, the jackets in the lighter skins are almost like completely different designs, they just drape and hang so differently.

+1. The FQHH/steer is nice but seriously, I feel there is practically zero discomfort/break-in required in my batch of the Vicenza. The break-in feels like more of a visual non-necessity more than anything, as it already seems to drape quite well. Other than the collar, zero time spent thinking about break-in. Nice stuff.

Thanks Grayland. The shoulder measurements on that 38 fit me but the chest is 1" too small. Too many pushups from my military days. But now I now I'm a solid 40 in the LHB based on chest. How's the full action back holding up ? Still looking neat/tight or does it start to become a bit loose/open?

That Hercules does look pretty nice. Could be an alternative, and maybe a better comparison in jacket style. LHB vs Herc. How do you like the plain back with no yoke or action pleat?

I don't have any restriction without an action back on the long Hercules, I think it's just a matter of getting the size right. The 50's half belt which it's based off doesn't have an action back either.

True. It's just the longer zip coats have the bottom hem measurement (hips) one needs to be careful of. Like on a regular waist length half belt if you have a 24" pit-pit and then it tapers to 22" at the bottom (waist) its ok. But on a longer coat, that bottom hem now has to go over the hips/**** which is wider. So usually flaring out to 23" is needed for comfort.

Have to admit the 30's HB in heavy Steer with coton lining has turned out to be my most-worn jacket with little if any question. I am also very fond of the Cafe Racer in Steer too however it's considerably more snug of fit, and I know it's not one you asked about. Also starting the break-in process on a FQHH HB as we speak. Can't wear it outside much now as it's in the '80's

I know this isn't what you're after and I have zero experience with the longer, car coat styles (from Aero) you are looking at but I will say this...having owned dozens of aero patterns. If I had to choose just one, for wearability in a multitude of situations, it would be a 30's HB. Owned CR's, 50's HB, j-106 and a bootlegger from Aero...Dozens more vintage Herc, Wards, Admiral Bird car coats...having merely tried on (and subsequently ordered) a 30's HB I can say without question it's the easiest pattern to pair with nearly anything. A very easy wearing and extremely verasatile style. Doesnt scream biker, vintage repro, blah, blah , blah...Just a beautiful design that works on so many levels and in every situation. That said...

Agree, the shorter HB's are more versatile but I've already built up that collection to about 6 jackets. Now I'm looking to build up the longer jacket stable! So far, one Barnstormer and one vintage Brent. Probably enough close space for at least two more long jackets

The Stockman is the slimmest fitting of the longer Aero coats I believe, and the Cheyenne obviously has the chest hand warmer pockets. These coats are fairly typical of motoring coats from the inter war period to mid century period and are actually very versatile coats. Perfect Golden Era jackets ;-)

I have a Barnstormer which I love but there's one type of Cheyenne I wish Aero would put on the books and that was Jan Solo's heavily customised one from 2009, yes maybe a bit of a stretch from a standard Cheyenne but (IMHO) one of the coolest jacket patterns seen here at TFL in my 10 odd years here:

That's highly likely and without doubt correct. In my defence my post was more about the Stockman being the trimmest out of itself, the VDR and Cheyenne which have traditionally been lumped together here when discussing any of these three Aero offerings. There's often been numerous threads about their differences, seeing as they're very closely related coats. Rightly or wrongly I was just trying to pre-empt the often seen, "OK, seeing as I'm looking at a Cheyenne, apart from the pockets, what's the difference between it and the Stockman, VDR" ;-)
