Gun's don't kill people... bullets kill people.

Any time I've heard this subject mentioned, I always hear people say that any time someone breaks into your house or is on your land without your permission, you can kill them in defense. Now, I live in a small town in Missouri, and about 88% of the people in my surrounding area are idiots who are full of hot air, and most of them are inbred I think too. Anyway, I'm sure there was some truth to this a hundred years ago, but times have changed. But I've honestly never looked into the subject, as I simply can't afford guns. I don't see how someone could sue you though, family, robber/attacker or otherwise... yes it may be legal, but that doesn't mean it makes sense.
lol
I got basic firearms training while I was in the Navy, so, I know how to use a .45, a 9mm, and a shotgun. I was stationed on a Submarine, and those were the only weapons we really dealt with, so, I didn't feel the need to extend my weapons training outside of those models. I think the 9mm we used were Berettas, and the shotguns were Mossberg 500 with shortened barrels. The .45's have pretty much been phased out, but we still learn how to use them. I've been out of the Navy for a year and a half now, and haven't touched a gun since, but, if I had the money, I know I'd buy a couple, only for home protection. I'm not even sure you can carry a gun in Missouri, but if I could, I would. However, I really know nothing about what is a "good, quality" gun, and what is not.
But I do want one of these...

Walther PPK (sorry for the bad pic)

Which I hear Bond will be using in Casino Royale (he's used the P99 since The World Is Not Enough).

If somebody is breaking into your house, yes, you generally can shoot them. If they're just trespassing on your land, no, you generally can NOT shoot them. In most states, you have a duty to inform them to leave the property, then you must contact law enforcement. This depends on your state, so you may want to contact the Attorney General's office of Missouri, or your local law enforcement agency to find out the actual laws in your state.

In general, a man's home is another animal, and he is usually allowed to defend it with deadly force if somebody breaks in. However, you still will want to find out what the laws in your state say for sure.

Wow. Americans and their guns. Concealment permits? Having them in your cars? Does my Canadian head in.

How many news articles do you read, Johnny? There may not be the same breed of criminal monsters out your way.

Semi-autos are used by every special team thru the military and law enforcement...
Revolvers are more reliable as they are more forgiving to improper use BUT if a revolver jams you will need a gunsmith to un-jam it. Not that it happens much. Semi's you have to be properly trained to operate, no limp wristing, and use the best ammo that has been tested in the gun, make sure the mags lips are not deformed. Revolvers are excellent, and are easier to train someone on, but if the person is willing to train, semi's should not be dismissed out of hand.
So don't dismiss semi's, they are not for everyone but in a well trained hand are equal to the task.

Let me not be misunderstood, John. I wouldn't presume to "dismiss" semi-autos. My carry gun is a semi. But your own evaluation emphasizes my point. For the average layman user, they aren't all they are made out to be. I even know cops who carry their old revolvers on duty and draw them before their current semi-autos when things get dicey. Still, as you say, they have their place, especially 1911's and such.
Anyway, John, you make a good point. Don't ignore semi-autos. They are right for some people.

carry piece

nothing, I dont have a carry permit

I fear getting caught by the police more than I fear being attacked by a robber.

if you get caught carrying a loaded pistol, you will be treated like the criminal, Ca is very anti - gun.

I carry my Springfield 1911A1 .45 ACP all of the time when off duty, but when I'm feeling old school I carry my S&W model 10 .38 Spl. And when the weather is just unbearably hot I pack my khar Pm-9.

Hopefully with the passing of HR218, giving police freedom to carry in all 50 states, a similar bill will pass giving law abiding citizens the same rights they deserve. I just recommend joining the NRA and pushing the issue with your senators. National concealed carry is not too far from reach…

Depends on which city you live in. Pasadena for example is pretty supportive of concealed carry.

In my state, Ohio, the concealed carry law was passed a couple of years ago, after much controversy and argument. Opponents of the bill argued that it would promote more crime and violence and be a nightmare for the police. So far it has not caused an increase in shootings or violent crimes as they feared. After all, violent criminals have always carried weapons illegally, and the vast majority of them could never get a permit. So the law provides for the self protection of law abiding citizens.
I think the best deterant would be to carry a gun openly. Just like in the old west, everyone knew who was armed and who was not. I think it would make any criminal very hesitant to start anything if he knew for a fact he could be shot.

Would it be legal to walk around with a weapon in view? I assume you'd still need a "concealed" carry permit.. and you'd get a lot of flack anyway. Not to mention you'd have to remove it in banks, schools etc. But I think things would be different if people displayed their heat like in the wild West. lol

Some states do allow open carry. I wish Texas did too, really.

The problem with open carry on a day-to-day basis is just that most people aren't used to weapons being carried by other people. It could cause unpleasant situations.

The other hazard is someone trying to grab it out of the holster to steal it, or worse. That would be my biggest worry.

In fact, it usually has the opposite effect and you'll start to see a slight decrease in crime.

In New Hampshire you don't need a license to carry open but you do need one to carry concealed. You don't see it a lot but every once in a while you will see somebody carry open. Usually the only time I do is if heading to the range.

Looks like a paratrooper model SAW.

Para has the retractable stock, the Mk 46 Mod 0 has the standard fixed stock (as pictured) and the short barrel. It's used by SOCOM. :D
