A bit of Soul dancing from 1966, that I heard today in the background of a TV advert! Amazing how they pop up!

This band had to change their name to "The Three Caps" (their former name) for the UK, as there was another UK band already going out as the Capitols....

Why do I never get sick of listening to this bloke?

Because he's got it!

When he first started out, there was a lot of T-Bone Walker in his playing. After a few years, he developed his own style, and what a style it is. He is instantly recognizable, even if he is playing someone else's record. Plus, he is a heck of a nice guy.

Thanks, HD. Jimmy Johnson sings in that high tenor. I used to think he was straining to get those high notes, but when I first saw him live, I saw how effortlessly he sings. It's natural for him.

His voice isn't quite as high in this song as some of them he did 30 or so years ago. As I remember, Ashes In My Ash Tray may be a good example of his voice when he was much younger.

Here is Ashes In My Ashtray as he (Jimmy Johnson) did it 30+ years ago. He is a short guy, who just sings as easy as if he were walking down the street. I saw him in small bar in Chicago about 10 years after this song was recorded. Maybe in the late 80s.

To commemorate Bluesfest this weekend, the Spin Doctor nominates his 10 all-time rocking blues tracks.

10. Stop Breaking Down (1972) - The Rolling Stones.

Blues godfather Robert Johnson’s songs have been interpreted in all sorts of ways, but this take from Exile on Main Street is original and reverential.

Number 1 in the above list. A man who often appeared at my favourite club - the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, England - back in the 60's.:D;)

The Carter Brothers (Roman, Albert & Jerry, along with Jimmy Morris) were originally from Garland, Alabama, but moved to Pacioma, California, before coming to the attention of Stan Lewis of Jewel Records out of Shreveport, Louisiana. This was a hit for them in the summer of '65....

Time for the fairer gender to sing. Here's Tina Britt with her "Who Was That", a song about infidelity, but because it was 1968, seemed to need a reference to the current dance craze, the Boogaloo.......

Let's stick with the ladies....

Everybody has heard the other side of this. "Rescue Me" was worldwide hit.

But what a wonderful soulful tune lurking on the other side.....

"The Soul Of A Man"......

Fontella recorded a few numbers with Bobby McClure. This one, from 1965, is the most well known.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of chemistry going on between them, though........

Sticking with the Ladies, here's an absolute classic from Dee Dee Sharp.

I loved this from the moment I bought it in 1968 - an early Gamble & Huff production.....:D
