I have sold a few items on here as well as eBay and Grailed, but never quite sure on initial pricing. I know something is worth what someone will pay for it but some baseline pricing seems outrageous, perhaps its for negotiation purposes. Setting a price point for a jacket to sell, any references anybody uses? I know it can be hard to gauge demand but using sites like Grailed and eBay where some jackets are listed for 3-4K (typically from Asia) seems excessive and a little disingenuous. Specifically I have a Freewheelers Bodie (brown) size 40 that is about 5 years old (purchased from Mirrorball) and has some wear (typical deerskin brown spotting.) I know pics are needed (and I will post shortly,) I have an idea for price but appreciate input. I will take the smart a#! comments because I think they are funny -keep em' coming, maybe just someone throw a serious one here or there.
Thanks and cheers

Have you checked pricing of previous Bodie listings, like this one?

Actually I did see that and I thought it was pretty cool the seller was honest about his purchase price. I was inclined to do the same maybe a little less than what I bought it for because it is a used jacket and has some wear. I read somewhere, I think on this forum someone jokingly referred to a "Freewheelers Tax" which to me sounded like sellers were marking these jackets up because of the brand and was just curious what selling and purchasing prices were.
Thanks for the comment.

+1

OP, look up past listings where the jacket has sold and you can get an estimation of the 2nd hand value of a jacket. Keep in mind prices on platforms like ebay and grailed can be inflated due to fees the sellers have to pay the platform.

I think some people have an inflated idea of the value for second hand clothing. That applies especially to fabrics that degrade faster with wear, get stained and wear thin. Leather jackets are a little different than e.g. trousers because they are inherently more durable and, I think, have longer fashion/trend cycles. But (tariffs and wait times notwithstanding) why would I pay 80-90% of new price for a used product?

A key question is how long are you comfortable holding the item waiting for it to sell? Sharply priced leather jackets sells fast on this forum. Unusual sizes or other oddities need the right buyer and that takes time.

As the other commenters have said, looking at prior sales is a good starting point.

That is a good take on tariffs and a subsequent decrease in overseas ordering driving up prices so vendors can meet their bottom line. Selling online has its inherent risks and rewards. I do think you have a valid point about new vs used with price points. I think I am secretly starting to dislike the word vintage because I don't really know what it means.
THanks for the input.
