Thats the problem ! A Jeans looks to casual, a chino to unifom.... Maybee khaki wool western pants ? The curved pockets break up a bit the uniformly look

Personally I think chinos work just swell, and they're what I use most of the time. I don't really consider it very "uniform-ley", but if you're really afraid of emanating a military look, I'd just avoid black(same color) and the typical khaki/olive as far as the color choice for the pants go.
