Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some help from the experts on this forum, with identifying this vintage leather biker coat.

I’m not sure if it’s horsehide or thick cowhide? Thoughts? It squeaks when wearing and is quite heavy, even without the missing liner.

I tried to match the Talon zipper, doing searching here and online in order to get an idea on when it was made, however, I could not find this specific zipper, and nothing with just the “T” symbol on the bottom portion of the main. Can someone shed some light on this? The main zipper says USA on the side. The other zippers are not branded, but rather have cris crossed lines (kind of hard to describe, hopefully that makes sense).

It’s marked as size 44 and fits me just about perfectly. No other brand or indicators of origin or maker. I normally wear a 42L so it appears to be running just slightly smaller. I also have long arms, normally needing sleeves of 24-25” in length, and these sleeves fit perfectly. The fit is very “form fitting” so it would be hard to wear if much of a “beer belly” was present (please don’t get the wrong impression as I’m not trying to sound presumptuous just trying to give a accurate description of the way it fits).

The sizing was perhaps another reason I was thinking 1940’s or 50’s during WW2 and Korean War, when most people during that era, were not very large, at least compared to nowadays.

The coat appears to have all brass hardware, which appears to be of high quality.

That being said, does anyone have an idea on approximately what era this might have come from?

Initially my gut was saying possibly 1940’s-1950s, but after doing some online searches potentially, it’s an early Vanson 1970’s horsehide? I could be way off with my guess…

If it is a Vanson, any idea on which model?

You’ll see on one of the pictures, the liner of one of the pockets, so hopefully that might give some clues on who made it and what circa it’s from?

Looks like a Lesco. Maybe from 70s or later since it doesn't have diamond or ring pulls on the pockets. In which case it's likely steerhide as well.

The information is much appreciated. Is the Talon hardware from the 1970’s? Do you think the hardware is original from Lesco? The coat weighs almost 7 pounds without belt or liner…pretty hefty. Thanks so much for your help!

I don't see evidence that the main zipper was replaced, unless it was expertly redone. That box stop is definitely not 40s, and probably not 50s. Earliest I would possibly say would be 60s, in which case it's probably still steerhide by this point. Lesco's seem to be solid, if underrated, jackets. Good value for money.

This looks identical to the Lesco that I owned, same size too.
The size sticker was in the same location.
Your jacket looks to be in very nice condition, probably from the 70's before the leather quality decreased.
I really like this jacket, I hope you enjoy it.
