The Cowboys. He played Jedediah Nightlinger. Saw this a few weeks ago. Saw this as a child. He spun a tale for the children: "Is that true?" "If it isn't, it oughta be."
Here's another good quote, after being propositioned: "Well, I have the inclination, the maturity, and the where-with-all; but unfortunately, I don't have the time."

Anyone remember Alfred Hitchcock's Topaz?

One of my all time favorite character actors, and one of the great TV faces of the '70s. His encounter with Archie Bunker in a stalled elevator remains one of the funniest memories of my youth -- no one could do the haughty-glare like him.

There's a great story about the time he appeared on some forgotten local talk show and the host, in discussing Mr. Browne's distinctive voice, made the rather impolitic remark that he didn't "sound black." Browne gave the host The Look, and replied "Well, we had a white maid!" lol

My favorite line of his from The Cowboys (right before Bruce Dern is about to hang him):

"Forgive me for taking Your name in vain, my Saturday drunkenness, my Sunday sloth. Above all, forgive me for the men I've killed in anger, and those I am about to..."
