An interesting story from Associated Press - click here. It seems to hammer home what I've always felt: Learning to use a fountain pen will lead to being able to write better (in terms of intelligence and style, not just in "looking pretty") because you think more about what you're saying before you actually set pen to paper.

"We talk of the paperless office and the paperless world, but this is not true," Lewis said. "You still need to have proper handwriting skills."

Well said. Pundits always used to say that we would not use cash in this century too. LOL Oh, and the USA will be fully metric in 1980. LMAO! Paperless office indeed, the PC has generated more paper use in offices than ever before.

Bartenders and women always notice when a man in a Tuxedo (non-metric size) orders a martini and pays in cash.

A wonderful idea!

The American education system needs a kick in the shins and this is one of many ways to start it.Our kids are growing up with bad habits, penmenship and grammar skills(if any are present at all!).I heard a young gal (18 or so) use the word "like" ,five times in one sentence.Even the college educated kids have the same bad habits.
Most seem not to understand the difference between singular and plural.
Maybe the emphasis on writing(and doing it well)will help.

Oh if only our kids could read Jane Austen novels instead of graphic novels.:)
