Scout Hat Stiffener Question

Is this product safe for the ribbons on my hats or is it best not to get it on the ribbon while using it?

I've had it darken grosgrain bands. Place loose masking tape over band, spray stiffener onto hat and remove masking tape immediately before any adhesive from tape is affected by the stiffener and possibly gets on grosgrain.
