Searching for a talented and trusted basher/creaser

Hey guys,

since I'm not pretty talented in stuff like that I want to ask a question. I'm pretty much interested in an "Akubra Squatter" in moonstone colour with an open crown.

Now here a few problems:
I didn't find a single German shop (with the moonstone colour), so I have to buy it in the USA and pay the international shipping costs. That's fine by me. But I thought if I buy it in the USA anyway, maybe a skilled guy could bash/crease it the way I like and then send it to me.
I would, of course, pay for it in advance (paypal preferred) :)

I don't know if it's okay to ask for that, but I think there's nothing wrong with it.

Thanks in advance,
Karyl.

PS: haha, my thread title sounds a bit like I'm in search for mobsters. Sorry, didn't know how to put it ;)

Just a suggestion, but do you realise how ridiculously easy it is to crease a hat? I was personally never scared of it but I never had any previous skill but I just went for it when I decided to re-shape the crown of one of my fedoras and it came out how I wanted it. It may seem difficult to you, but to be honest a centre dent and pinches could probably be done in less than ten seconds and without needing any skill.

Plus, it's not like folding paper. If you make a mistake, just pop the crease out and start again. Felt, and especially Akubra felt (according to what I've read so often here) is a very tough material and it would take considerably more than a bad bash to destroy it.

Of course I'm not saying your idea of having someone help you is bad, I just think you could save yourself time and money. Plus if your hat gets soaked in the rain you can re-shape the hat yourself rather than having to send it to the US.

I wonder if a hard case would cost less than shipping (and customs) from the U.S.

If so, I would try to find a person on the board from the U.S. who will be going to Germany. Have the hat shipped to him, and get him to bring the hard case with hat along for his German trip. Meet up, and I bet that after a couple of good German beers, he would forget the hard case with hat.

Unfortunately my last trip was in September, and I won't be coming back until 2012. Can you wait that long ...

As for the bash/pinch - you will want to learn to do that yourself for when you decide you want a "different" look.

Buy it from Australia. It will be cheaper in the long run. If you get it from hatsdirect.com maybe they will bash it for you. No harm in asking. Besides its not that difficult to bash a hat. It just takes practice. I messed around with my first hat for months until I found a style I liked.

Well, you might be right. A center dent might be easy, but what if I want a c crown or something more complicated :p
Once my hat was wet (from rain) it took me no more than five minutes to get a good C-crown into it. I had never done this before and just tried what I liked the look of, and I think it came out OK. If you have too much trouble, just search all the threads on creasing. There's one concering how to construct a perfect teardrop crease (C-crown).

@dnjan:
we should keep that in mind :) hope I remember 2012. Here are some nice breweries. I'd prefer May, because every May we got special beer - Bockbier. It's quite tasty. I'll get you a barrel.

@johnnycanuck:
thanks for your reply, I will ask :)

@avedwards:
you're probably right. I will try to learn it, but the next two months I'll roughly have any time, due to college exams.

As I tried to point out, it takes hardly any time to learn. Just put a centre crease in when you get it (takes less than a ten seconds as I said), wear it in the rain and spend ten minutes creasing it how you want it (VERY easy to do), then forget about it until your exams are over.

Therefore the total time you need to spend is about ten minutes and ten seconds. Adding another five minutes to place the order and another two minutes to unpack the hat when it arrives, your total time spent obsessing over that hat should be seventeen minutes and ten seconds. :D
