Searching for Huckel fedora 57cm charcoal

Greetings to felt hat fans on this impressive forum. I'm a new member from Melbourne, Australia who has worn-out 5 Huckel fedoras from the time I was 22 til now - 46 (there were several building projects in there etc / camping - I have been pretty hard on them)

I love this hat, and left my most recent one on a passenger ferry a while back. My trouble is that there is no longer a supplier for these hats in Australia, and I'm suffering. Can't find anything I like.

I contacted Tonak in the Czec Republic (maker of brand) but they won't send to me (I offered to buy 5!). I have asked Tonak if they can nominate a retailer anywhere in the world who can sell me Huckel stock by post / net, but not much help came. So I'm wondering if anyone has advice on how I might buy Huckel hats and have them sent to Melbourne.

Thanks, and sorry it's a bit dull as a post!

There are a whole host of people here much better qualified to answer your question than I. However, I would like to ask you what it is about this particular hat that you like so much and if you think there really is nothing in the same league as it. After all, if that is the case, I might like one myself.

Hello Hereward.

I guess for me it's the combination of the softness of the felt, the absence of binding on the rim, the slightly wider brim than most fedoras I've tried. Might also be that the crown just suits my head - not sure. I'm not aware of a great diversity of felt hats on the Australian market. Wearing an Akubra feels like wearing a carton by comparison, even if sized correctly. The shape has a bit of an arty look which I like - I associate it with writers for some reason.

Thanks for your interest,

Tim

As mentioned Selentino is TONAK for the US market. Appears TONAK is using the Hückel (I have a good number of vintage Hückels) name for the Hasidic market these days. You might want to contact Steve at Bencraft Hatters. Also possible he might chime in with info.

Thank you for this good advice. I know it must seem a bit odd that I like to stick to one kind - I think it's partly lack of exposure to a broader range of hats - I have put quite a lot on my head though...to no avail.
