I tried corking a fresh blade this morning - and to ease the preassure on the blade. It worked. I still got some razorburn, but that was mainly due to me getting too eager on the third pass.

Nivea is available in Denmark, I will try looking up some AS balm from them.

I do not think that Thayer's witch hazel is available in Denmark, bit I will definetly look for it.

Thank you for the excellent advice so far, it is much apriciated.

Funny how this place can make everyday things, like shaving, exiting and something that one looks forward to :)

High regards.

Jakob
I do enjoy the extra time to shave in the mornings. Just makes me take a couple of extra minutes while the coffee's brewing and start the day off a little more relaxed.

Tried out a new razor this AM:
Gillette long handle adjustable
Derby Blade
Omega Badger Brush
"X1" Soap
Clubman AS
4 passes on a Sunday Morning, excellent shave

JEEP, you might ask your girlfriend what it is in the perfumes that she is allergic to. The reason I say this is that there are two main scenting agents used in perfumes of which she may only be sensitive to one. There are both EOs ( essential oils ) and FOs ( fragrance oils ) of which the EO is natural and the FO is usually man made. Some people are only sensitive to one or the other. It is just a thought and might allow for more fun for both of you....

Unfortunally she has been tested allergic to both. She is also allergic to cats and smoke - two of my other great "loves" of life. But, no doubt she is worth it :)

Everything old is new again.

After years of shaving with multi-blade cartridge razors, I've decided to return to a double-edge safety razor like the one I used in high school, college, and the military. I think that old Gilette is around here somewhere but it could take a year to find it. So I bid on and won two Parker safety razors this evening.
A Parker 60

and a Parker 90

They each come with five 7 AM platinum and teflon coated blades.
I also purchased two leather protective travel cases.

I'll keep one razor and case and give the other to my son for his birthday.
Now I need to do some reading in this thread and see how things have improved in the last thirty years or so.

Hey Carter, glad to see you've come back to the Dark Side of DE shaving! Drop in over at Badger and Blade, you will see several familiar faces there. PM me with your address and I'll send you some different types of blades to try out!
Today's shave
Gillette Long Adjustable
Derby Extra Blade
C&E Nomad soap
Omega Pur Badger Brush
AV Musk AS
First timre with the nomad soap, very nice shave. Gonna have to stock up if case they discontinue it.

Carter, I hope you manage to locate that old Gillette of yours! I'm sure the Parkers are just fine (I have never tried them myself) but the feeling of a classic Gillette is a real treat. :)

I just thought I'd show you all something I picked up on an online auction the other week - It's a bakelite travel case with a local brand "SWING" razor. I'm not 100% sure but I think this one is from the early to mid 1940's.

It gives a pretty mild shave even with a Feather blade in it.

VERY nice, a great score. It may be older than you think because that style of head was getting fazed out in the 20s by Gillette.
