Side By Side/ Hat Comparisons

I don’t know if I’ve done a full side by side of my 4 pack of Whippets before. However I did wear three of them this week and thought the photos fit the Side by Side thread billing. May have to do a full SBS on the whole pack at some point.

Dobbs Cross Country: I wore a Dobbs Cross Country recently (green hued felt). I was curious as to how it compared to another Dobbs Cross Country (light gray) I have on my hat rack. Yesterday I grabbed some comparison pics.

When starting to compare them several differences popped up.

Open Crown dimensions are different. The green hued fedora is 1/2" shorter. An eye comparison has the blocking the same. As hat fans know the crown height of 1/2 changes the crease and the hat appearance. I have creased both hats with a center dent and a gently spread of the back of the crown.

Ribbons are different. A "country styled" ribbon treatment on the green and a "town and country" ribbon treatment on the light gray.

Crown markings are different.

The felt is similar in hand. The brim treatment and width is similar.

I am privileged to have both fedoras on my hat rack. These un-reeded lightweight felt hats are enjoyable to gently wear.

Cheers, Eric -

A few 3ply early to late 50s Stetson examples. These 3 make up some of the diversity in Stetson modest sized western offerings, and are seldom seen these days.

A rich brown 3x with unusual brim binding, a nice contrasting ribbon and brim bound 4x, and a RE 100 in slate.
