Straw and glue question

If I were intending on gluing a new ribbon onto an straw panama hat (a $30 hat, nothing fancy), what sort of glue should I be using?

I've used a hot glue *** before with no ill effects on the straw to hold a ribbon in place...

Do the hatbands on straws come glued on the hat? That's a surprise to me. Why not a few stitches, like on a felt hat? Thanks!

I change colors...

I have several hats that I change the ribbon color on the hat and its easier to use the glue *** than sewing the ribbon. On my finer Montecristi hats the ribbon is sewed on the hat...

The glue is very easy to get off the hat rubs off in a little ball.

NB-13, I have used the double stick carpet tape to attach ribbon on some of my straws, it works good and is not hard to change ribbon out if you should want.

Thanks guys. Now I just need to find a nice bit of ribbon for cheap.

I grab a needle and thread, flip the sweatband down and throw a few stitches through the ribbon and hat in 2-3 places.

I still have the 2 little clips/pins from the old ribbon, but once I come back around & meet up....I don't know how to neatly finish it? How do I hide that other clip/pin?
