Synchronicity

Odd how there's a certain synchronicity to things.

Here's the basis of my comment.

A couple of weeks ago, my son was asking about changes in the physical makeup of the church we attend here (St. Anthony of Padua). Amongst the changes was the elimination of of clips on the back of the pews, to hang hats on. They were eliminated about 20 years ago, reflecting, I suppose, the decline in general hat use. Some men still wear hats here to Church, but they're usually dress Cowboy hats, and they simply place them on the seats of the pews.

A historical email list I subscribe to is discussing hats at the present. It'd be a read familiar to those here, discussing styles and decline of use, related, more or less, to the WWII time frame.

One of those comments noted the clips for hats in a Church back east, but noted that he's never seen them in use.

But then, just yesterday, walking out of Church, I noticed that a young man in front of me, nicely but somewhat eccentrically dressed, was carrying a short Stetson Fedora (a shorty). It had to be a vintage hat. I don't think those were ever common here, but he had one.

I have no real message here, but it's interesting how these things occur all simultaneously.
