I saw this for the first time on the local PBS station last night. Not too bad a film. Bogart had his loner role. Ava Gardner was quite good. She was a shorty wasn't she? :D That they built a story centered on thoughts at a funeral was interesting.

My favorite part of this film will always be the image of Bogart wearing what was essentially his wardrobe from "Casablanca" in the rain and in full color, or was it Technocolor?

-And, of course, two minutes later, he was entirely dry.

Also, it is an interesting story and Ava Gardner is absolutely enchanting.

The last time Daisy Buchanan was in the hospital, I bought her this DVD.

I slept thru it

I suprisingly, don't have this in my collection, but it may be on some VHS tape in the closet.

I watched "The Portrait Of Dorian Gray" and taped it .....a classic 40's film. The Barefoot Contessa was on after, but   I had fallen asleep in front of the TV AGAIN! Saw a few minutes of the program. It was classic late era Bogart.

Ethnic Stereotypes?

Now, I don't want to be offensive to anyone, but, Maria Vargas' mother in that movie was very stereotypical Iberian Peninsula wife. And the father too. Reminds me of that article from the pedigree thread that Tony in Tarzana recommended.lol The one about the father giving the mother the paycheck.

I thought ava Gardner was good in that movie as well, but it is for sure not one of my favorites...it was too depressing, guess you just have to be in the right mood [huh]
