Does anybody know how to date vintage Timex watches.Would love to buy a vintage 1950's s Timex automatic but none of the ebay sellers I've contacted has any idea when there watches were made.

I too would be interested in this - I'm actually today wearing an old Timex (I suspect 60s, but in a very classic style) that belonged to my paternal grandfather. No real monetary value, but a nice, classic design and it has that connection to my family histroy.... I must try and get a photo up. I know a lot of folks look down on the Timex range, but IMO they're nicely designed, and this one is getting on for half a century old now (at least) without any performance problem....

I'd love to see those, Betty. As said, I suspect mine is a 1960s model, but I'm not sure how old the design is.

Managed to snap a few photos of the watch - phone shots so not great, alas, but I think clear enough to see the details:
Text on the left is the TIMEX logo, and underneath it 'Water Resistant.' Two separate windows at the three o'clock position, one for day (mon, tue, etc, all three letters), one for date. Fully manual wind-up. Strap is not original. The one I understand to have been original (but possibly wasn't!) was black, some sort of acetate / vinyl / plastic material which looked like imitation leather. Lovely watch to wear, keeps good time when kept wound. A few light scratches on the dial as to be expected from a watch of its age (quite possibly some put there by me when I wore it for a while as a child.... did'nt stick with it very long, though.... didn't have the paitience to keep it wound! lol ).

I've made the experience that many sellers on ebay are only selling them without knowing much about the pieces. I think they are not real collectors, more the watchmakers and traders. Thanks, I'll check those links out. I agree re eBay; I think a lot of folks on there are selling on stuff from house clearances etc and don't really know much about what they have. Frustrating in some ways, tough on the other hand it's also a great way of finding a few bargains.
