Some additions to the collection.

On the left is an old 'Special Quality' which annoyingly has a greasy patch where the knot ties (any suggestions for cleaning this would be greatly appreciated).

In the middle is an unworn 'Standard Quality'. Sadly it has been attacked by moths in about half a dozen places. Interestingly though, I think it must be a very early one - the label is printed rather than embroidered, and I have another 'Standard' with such a label whose text has almost completely worn away.

Lastly, and the only one of its kind I've seen, is a Tootal wool tie. Unlined and at 52", I assume it must be of the 'Terylene Era', but early-on going by the construction and length. What do you folks reckon?

Thanks for looking!

Yes, that 'standard quality' label certainly looks early. The ones I own with that label are very thin and feel quite cheaply made. But they are great to find. Pity about the damage. I've never seen a Tootal with a wool label. I think that woolmark was introduced in the mid 1960s.

TT - Yes it's nice just to have that tie with the cardboard label on anyway, despite the damage. Goes to show that moths really do go for Rayon! As for the wool one, I think 1960s would be about right, going on the width. Still a lovely classic wool tie though.

HBK - mine was from that same seller - I opted for the cheaper damaged one for the sake of collection, rather than wearing. I can't afford ties at £27 a pop! ;)

There are some very very nice Tootals on Ebay, and a lot of deadstock, but I simply can't warrant paying the amount they want for them. I have to sit on my hands and wait for the cheaper ones to come about either online or via my other sources - for instance I just won a Tootal-Croydon from the US last night for about £10 inc. p&p (not bad for new-in-box!)

There are a couple of 'Grey' and 'Blue' quality ones floating about for £15, and they are the two colour qualities I don't have. Oh boy am I tempted...

The £10 Croydon is a good deal. I'll look forward to photos. I agree that £27 is far too much to pay for those ties, deadstock or not.

Seems a shame to keep them rolling over like that. I've been watching a black db 1930s blazer roll around for about two years and the seller has never budged from £125! Who'd ever pay so much for just a run of the mill blazer with defects?!
Anyway...
Thanks estaban - not sure what the pattern is meant to be but it is nice. Interesting about the wool mark.

A couple of curious ones here.
First is the aforementioned 'Tootal-Croydon', from Canada. 'Popular Quality', still on original gift-sleeve, 'From Roy to Kenneth', which is pretty nice. I really like the crispness of this one, and the pattern is nice and traditional. I would assume its pretty damned old, maybe 1930s?

(apologies for the blurring on the label)

This one is weird. It's clearly a 'Special Quality' (or 'Black') but with a 'Standard Quality' label on it. I can only assume that it was mislabeled. It's in perfect condition, and I like the little chain-link thingy pattern. Has anyone else come across wrong labels?

Finally is my first Tootal bow tie - 'Red Quality' with a simple pattern.

Thanks for looking!

Eddie - love the Tootal-Croydon. The one I have has a very different label. Everything about that is great! Nice to see the mislabeled one. I've just found a few on my trip to Scotland. Will be posting soon.

Freddie, the colour son that 'red quality' tie are wonderful.

TT - Thanks! I'm thrilled with it myself. Have we got any idea when Tootal-Croydon carried on to? Is yours on this thread somewhere for me to look at? Look forward to seeing what you've found north of the border!

Eddie, yes my Tootal Croydon should be somewhere on this thread. And no, I have no idea how long that range was in production.

Here's another example of the 'Boys' range:
