I bought this jacket a couple of years ago for a couple of reasons; I have seen their jackets but never owned one. and I graduated from Utah State University in 1975. I don't think of Utah as a garment center, but it may be. When information on a company is limited I go to the jackets them selves. I've seen American jackets with pre-war zippers, so I know they were in operation pre-war, before that I couldn't say. The jacket I'm offering is from the early 50s, so they are operating in the early 1950s.
Every jacket tells a story and this one spoke the first time I put my hand through the sleeve end and the cuff was loose. That in itself was a big find to me, my world. The jacket may also be telling a story with the Horsehide tag. I also confirmed another idea by having the jacket in hand. So, I got what I wanted, knowledge.
The first time I wore this jacket was to a local theater production. The lady selling tickets commented on the jacket! The first wear. I don't get comments.
I've got to throw in my opinion! The jacket appears to be a copy of California Sportswear jacket I had hanging next to it! To me, un mistakable similarities. I get it. CSC was the giant out west, so a good one to look at for styling.
The jacket is a 50s version of a pre-war California Sportswear design with the same fit but a lighter leather.
The zipper is original, the lining is original and from the early 50s. It has shorter sleeves, look to be 24. Both cuff ends need attention, some finish cracks on one shoulder.
