But I'm guessing it's the SMS Hindenburg, the one that was scuttled at Scapa Flow?

NickD, I didn't know there was more than one Hindenburg.

The photo's not a Zep, it's the stern end of a ship. The SMS Hindenburg was a battlecruiser that was laid down in 1913, commissioned in '17, and scuttled with the rest of the German vessels at Scapa Flow in '19. There was also a German ocean liner named Hindenburg that was rechristened Columbus in the '20s.

Good catch, Alan, thanks for that link. Nick D, you make good points. I got this in an email powerpoint, where it was misidentified.

There was a high resolution scan posted to one of the photos threads some time back... I remember it being a stunner.
