I've never seen a strat like that. '60s model, you think?

Blocked in crown, black sweat, different (though original looking) ribbon.

While a beautiful hat, I have to say the wide ribbon is not original to the Stratoliner brand. Someone must have had this hat refurbished.

Yeah, sure is an oddity, ain't it? Makes me wonder if they didn't briefly resurrect the model name for a kinda similar hat. That black sweatband looks mre recent than any Strat I've ever encountered.

Stetson redesigned other of their classic names. Just look at the *******. It wouldn't surprise me to hear of them doing that to the strat towards the end of its run.

While it could be, I have NEVER seen a Stratoliner ad with this type ribbon.
I could be wrong, but I dont think the ribbon is original.

just posing the question-
Have any of you seen this kind of sweat on a strat?
I sure haven't.
I've seen wide brown smooth ones ,wide brown textured ones and thin dark brown textured sweats, but not black ones.

Same here. I haven't seen one either, other than the one shown in this thread. I wonder if that's a Philadelphia hat, or if it was made under license elsewhere.

The sweatband is typical of hats made during the 1960's from Stetosn. I think that the hat was refurbished . The band is not original. The blocking of the crown was probably done by the owner of the hat . It was a common practice years ago for hat renovators to use "parts" of old hats when fixing hats that were brought in to be cleaned.

wide ribbon Stratoliner

There was a Stratoliner sold on E-bay within this past year that had a medium width ribbon. I remember thinking I have never seen one like it. It was of the same vintage as this hat. Because of condition issues I did not pursue it.

So ... when did the last Stratoliner take wing? I'm thinking that by the 1960s the Stratoliner name wouldn't have carried the same cachet it did in earlier decades, seeing how we were well into the era of jet-powered commercial aircraft by then. Not that that would have necessarily kept Stetson from continuing its use, but it would have seemed rather old-fashioned at that point, I would think, and old-fashioned wasn't exactly where it was at (to borrow a phrase from the day) in the early '60s.
But yeah, that sweatband DOES look '60s, and it DOES say Stratoliner, so ...

You may be right about it being refurbished, but I did have a late 50s early 60s Stetson that was marked stratoliner very similar to this at one time about 10 years ago . . . Thinner sweat, wider (1 inch) ribbon . . .

SO perhaps there was a 60s incarnation that did not last . . .

No that is not the hat I was thinking about, but I do remember the hat you pictured. The hat I was thinking of was a real beater. Someone asked when the last " Stratoliner take wing"? I do not know that but I did find out when Stetson filled for the Trademark for Stratoliner. Filed 12-15-44. Recieved 6-12-45. They also applyed for a trademark for a Stratocruiser and recieved it 7-22-47.
