In another thread it was mentioned that some of us can tell when a hat is an iconic representation of a specific era.
Some Loungers mentioned they'd like an understanding as to the styles that were prevelant at the time so a basic hat style reference with timeline would be available to see.
While there may have been an abundance of different styles available thru each decade but from photos and film we can see that certain attributes as to crown height, brim width and ribbon treatment was more prevelant at certain times thus creating an ICONIC hat.
What makes the hats of 1920's / 30's / 40's / 50's different as to dimensions and such to arrive at the iconic style of each era?
(Also it might make a difference as to the class or occupation of the wearer as to whether it would be one for say: the ordinary Joe Blow, the sport, the businessman, the rich guy or the playboy.)
Photos, commentary and measurements would be most helpful here.
Thanks!
