I danced to her music live a couple times when I was just down in NOLA. She is an amazing performer.

I am listening to...

Jack Payne and His Band, performing one of those wonderful novelty jazz songs that the 20s and 30s were famous for...

"Everything Stops for Tea".

Oh the factories may be roaring,
With a boom-a-lacka-zoom-a-laka-zee,
But there isn't any roar,
When the clock strikes four...

...Everything stops for tea!

Recorded December, 1935. You can listen to it here:

I find that British jazz of the 30s has a very different, 'classier' flavour to the more 'popular' feel of American 30s jazz, and yet for the most part, they play the same songs. I don't know if this makes any sense, but it's what I think.

Now listening to one of my favourite recordings...

The Savoy Orpheans performing "Hop, Skip".

An excellent recording of this song, together with vocals, may be heard here, performed by Frank Ellis and the Hotel St. Francis Orchestra, coming to you live from 1927...

One of my favorite of Jack Hylton's German recordings with vocal by American-born Austin Egen.
