The author looks to Hollywood a bit too much for his social barometer. Screenwriters, directors, and playwrights do not a majority make, and their view of romance is most certainly farfetched.
I think I'll stick to the idea that eventually I'll find somebody that may not be a perfect match, but is certainly right. I've struck out three times already. Thinking that there is 'the one' is somewhat naive. Conversely, having many casual relationships is never going to be fufilling if you're looking for something permanent.
It depends, of course, on the individual. Some people can move on almost immediately. Others can take years to get over someone, or might never.
