A devout capitalist in Los Angeles CA.
Aside from the high end boutique shops that custom make jeans or make 400 dollar pairs...

I do believe the English are leading the way.

You probably need to ask for actual waist measurements, though. Else you'll likely end up with a hip hop style pair of jeans that drop right from your waist.

Good news. Freddies of Pinewood have their 1940s cut back in stock. I thought they were gone forever!

I just got 1940s USN repros from a brand called Lutece Mfg. Co.
As far as I know they are about 13 oz selvedge denim. Certainly heavy enough for me. But the important part is the HIGH RISE and wide leg, buckle back.
They go for about £50 or 70-80€ on various ebay shops and other reenactment supply internet shops.

The main difference is how they are worn. The high waist would go over the belly button and not over your knees. ;-)

Vintage is a bit unspecific too. In this case we mean 30s to 40s. Jeans from the late 19th century to the 1920s were slimmer for example. If you google pictures from the dust bowl (try "farm security administration") or the 30s USN sailors you will see what I mean.
